Thrombin or factor II has many effects within the coagulation cascade. It is a serine protease that is responsible for the conversion of the soluble protein into insoluble fibrin. Factor IIa is also responsible for the activation of factor VIII into factor VIIIa
Factor II deficient plasma is an immune depleted plasma that has been stripped of all factor II to give a level under 0.01iu/ml, whilst retaining all other factor levels and fibrinogen.
Factor II deficient plasma is used in factor assays on mechanical or optical or analysers
