Deficiency of Factor XI causes the rare disease Haemophilia C and is a autosomal recessive disease. There is little spontaneous bleeding, but surgical procedures may cause excessive blood loss.
Factor XI deficent plasma is immune depleted to give a Factor XI under 0.01iu/ml, whilst retaining normal levels of all other factors and fibrinogen.
