Factor XII is also known as Hageman factor. The activated form of Factor XII activates factor XI and Prekallikrein. Factor XII itself can be converted to its active form Factor XIIa by negatively charged surfaces.
Factor XII deficient plasma is immune depleted to give a Factor XII level of under 0.01iu/ml, whilst retaining normal levels of all other factors and fibrinogen.
